And the storms continue

I swear .... this litter will be the death of me.

Saturday afternoon I put the puppies outside in the shade in the x-pen for about 3 hours to let them enjoy some fresh air and summer breezes. I brought them in around 4 and when I did, Green Boy had the most horrid, liquid stool ever. I scooped him up and realized he was not just puppy tired but rather lethargic and not responsive.

Away to the emergency vet we went .... and thus ensued a myriad of tests and a night in the hospital for my boy. We ruled out all the uglies -- parvo, bacteria, nasty disease. I left him and went back at midnight and six AM. I called every 2 hours in between. A massive chunk of change later ... he was recouping and I breathed a sigh.

I was fortunate -- the vet who was on call is the vet who used to work at my regular clinic and cared for Truman in his last days. He is someone I trust and we agreed that likely the pup did something to get an upset tummy which led him to not eat or drink properly and led to a cycle of diarreaha and vomiting that threw everything off kilter. We tested everything and it was clear this was a healthy sound pup who had something that caused his digestive system to get out of whack. The good news is that we were able to administer fluids, protien and some other meds and get him headed the right direction.

I am now new personal best friends with the folks at the ER. And Green Boy was an absolute ambassador -- everyone in the clinic shot a photo of him with their phones and was IN LOVE with his charming personality. He is a VERY special dog on many levels. He holds the inexplicable quality that can not be measured.

This afternoon I spent the day with the babies and my dear friend Leslie in the back yard. We watched and laughed and shared a bottle of wine and a bazillion photos of the babies. Those are forthcoming,

I am grateful for the babies and for health. Truly, they are beautiful. And, As Leslie Noted -- they have amazing, calm, sweet temperments. It is hard to explain that on 6 week old puppies but they DO. They are the most Chillaxed pups I have ever seen. While they will play ... they are just NOT uptight about anything. Families, you will be blessed.

Off to sleep a little tonight....
